Living safely in an old home, especially with kids

I have lived in three different South Bend homes built before 1900, and I am drawn to their character and charm. When my infant daughter’s blood test came back with an elevated lead level, I was driven to learn more about the health impacts of living in an older house. I started working with a team at Notre Dame to find new ways to prevent this problem. Much of my work since then has focused on lead and other environmental contaminants that can affect children's health.
