With an endless stream of online resources, many of us now have easy access to a lot of information. But not everyone knows how to evaluate what they see and read in order to detect distortions, manipulations and bias. At the library, I often answer questions about how to spot “fake news” online. I also teach information literacy to college students at IUSB. We all tend towards “confirmation bias,” trusting things that confirm our existing beliefs and doubting any contradictory evidence. I hope these resources will help you better navigate information on the Internet—and give you the tools to fact-check things you agree with just as rigorously as things you disagree with.
